Who Is Your Best Friend?
Are they someone who is a positive influence on you?
Are they someone who always has your best interests at heart?
Are they there for you in good times and bad?
Can you trust them implicitly?
Do they tell you what you need to hear (not what you want to hear)?
If they knew everything about you, are you confident they would still love you?
Can you call on them anytime? 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?
Would they die for you?
Jesus Loves YOU! Is your best friend Jesus?
Who Is Jesus and How Do I Get to Heaven?
Mankind is faced with a very basic problem. We fall short of the absolute perfect standard that God established. ("For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23) Not just one of us, but all of us. And yet, in our hearts we long for a perfect world and perfect relationships. We were made for such perfection, but we are never able to achieve it in our own lives and are constantly disappointed to see it lacking in the lives of others. Life is frustrating.
God created all things in the universe and all creatures and gave man dominion over the earth. God inspired the writing of the Bible as a way to communicate with us and to allow us to share our faith.
God loves us and wants us to love Him and be with Him in Heaven (the perfect existence designed for us). He has given us a free will to do as we wish. He will not force us to do anything and He will not force us to love Him and be with Him. Heaven is a perfect place of eternal happiness and we must be "perfected" to enter. How is this possible? God created a means for all of us to be able to attain a relationship with Him and to spend eternity with Him in Heaven. In fact, He loves us so much that He made the greatest sacrifice by sending His Son to die for us. ("For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him (Jesus) shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16)
God sent Jesus Christ to die for us as a substitution for the punishment that we should receive for our immoral actions (our sins). Because He is the Son of God, His death has eternal value and is able to pay for the sins of anyone who believes in Him. (The apostle Paul writes: "For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, and He rose from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures." I Corinthians 15:3,4)
Faith in Jesus Christ provides a way for us to be perfected for entry into Heaven when we die. This tremendous blessing from God is NOT something that we can work to attain. It is a free gift that only has to be accepted. Receiving it as a gift means we acknowledge our failed ways of trying to making life perfect and realize we need God and Jesus living in us to rescue us from ourselves. ("For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8,9)
What we must do is accept what God has revealed to us through the Bible and Jesus Christ, and pray, acknowledging our sins, and asking Jesus Christ to rescue us and to give us the wonderful gift of eternal life. When we do this, we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior (and we want to follow His example and be like Him). Once we have done that, then God's promise is that we will receive His help to live in the way He wants us to and, beyond this life, to spend eternity with Him in Heaven. ("Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God." John 1:12 "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life." I John 5:11-13).
.
The evidence that His life has taken residence in ours is a new love and appreciation for Him, the only God, and for His Word, the Bible. And we will have a new love for others who have come to Him the same way and desire to be with them and worship our God together. We will have a new sensitivity to our own rebellious hearts and find God changing us slowly to be more like Jesus Christ. We will also find a new love for all who do not know Jesus and we will be compelled to share the good news of Jesus with everyone.
